Apple Music refresh to bring lyrics and new black-and-white UI

Earlier today, we brought word of Apple’s plans to relaunch its music-streaming service at WWDC in June.

Following on from the Bloomberg piece, 9to5Mac sources have fleshed out the details on how the new version may take shape.

According to the report, the new and improved Apple Music will dispense with the highly colourful user interface. Instead, there will be a far simpler design with black-and-white text and backgrounds.

Album artwork will become far more prominent, but the backgrounds will no longer change colour when users browse in the Albums view.

Elsewhere, Apple is also planning to integrate lyrics, according to the report. This will happen gradually, but there will be support for some of the most popular acts at launch.

The New tab has also been earmarked for the chop, while much of the current content will be part of a new and better organised Browse tab, similar to Spotify.

The For You section will be simplified and “better promoted” according to the report.

While all of those changes are expected to arrive next month, Beats 1 is unlikely to change too much. Bloomberg had earlier said the service will be expanded, suggesting it may become more prominent in the refresh.
