Apple may be set to refresh its 15-inch MacBook Pro line with faster components as standard, if reports from China are to be believed.
A photo said to have been taken from Apple’s Chongqing store in China shows an official-looking spread of three 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display configurations.
The first two of these options are priced identically to the current configurations, and there’s a third, more expensive option to boot. But it’s the tweaked specifications across the board that are most noteworthy here.
The entry-level specification includes an Intel Core i7 2.2GHz processor with 16GB of RAM. That represents a marginally faster processor (up from 2GHz) and double the RAM of the current edition.
Meanwhile, the second configuration represents a similar 200MHz speed boost – a 2.5GHz Intel Core i7 – and the same 16GB of RAM as standard.
The third configuration, finally, has a 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of flash storage. That costs 23,688 yuan, which translates to £2,255. Or, perhaps more instructively, to about £500 more than the previous model.
All three of these two initial configurations include Intel Iris Pro graphics, while the second and third ones also have an NVIDIA GeFore GT 750M.
These processor speeds point to the implementation of Intel’s new Haswell chips, which were only launched last week.
Of course, there’s a chance that these images have been faked, but a minor line refresh of this kind seems quite plausible ahead of the full launch of OS X Yosemite this autumn.
