The expected refresh has happened.
As expected Apple went ahead and updated its MacBook and MacBook Pro ranges. While there’s still no sign of the LED backlighting the MacBook has been clamouring after for months now, getting some Penryn-flavoured speed bumps won’t go amiss.
Up first the MacBook will see the option of either a 2.1GHz T8100 or 2.4GHz T8300 processor, while elsewhere maintaining the same specs. Current owners probably won’t need to rush out and upgrade; while the new 45nm processors may offer slightly better battery life it probably won’t be to any noticeable degree. Pricing for the refreshed MacBooks starts from £699.
The MacBook Pro, meanwhile, not only sees the option of either 2.4GHz T8300, 2.5GHz T9300 or 2.6GHz T9500 processors, but also the addition of a multi-touch touchpad as seen on the MacBook Air. Other than that there are no changes to this range either, but if you fancy some gesture-based Mac action then you’ll be paying from £1,299 for the privilege.
