Apple Mac Pro on sale now from £2,500

The new Mac Pro is now on sales, with Apple’s latest high-end desktop setting wannabe owners back upwards of £2,500.

Formally unveiled earlier in the year, the Mac Pro is finally available for order, with Apple’s online retail outlet now letting you snap up one of two preset Mac Pro configurations or dictate your own upgrades.

Although the Cupertino-based company has started taking Mac Pro orders, the computer’s product listings page suggests that the devices will not start shipping until an undisclosed date in January meaning pre-Christmas delivery is out of the question.

A dramatic step away from Mac Pros of old, the all new models feature a cylindrical aluminium body just 9.9-inches tall that takes up just an eighth of the space of its predecessor.

With a variety of Mac Pro specs combinations available, Apple has confirmed that the entry level model, priced at £2,499 will incorporate a 3.7GHz quad-core Intel Xeon E5 processor that is capable of Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.9GHz.

On top of this, the base model will further benefit from dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs, each with 2GB of VRAM, 12GB of incorporated memory and a 256GB flash storage system.

For those wanting a little more grunt to their premium computer, a 2.5GHz six-core Intel Xeon E5 processor hosting model is available for order with a pair of AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3GB of VRAM apiece in tow. This model will set wannabe owners back a lofty £3,299.

A device capable of editing 4K content at full-resolution, all Mac Pro models come with six Thunderbolt 2 ports.

Apple has confirmed it will also offer a range of spec bumping add-ons, with Mac Pro owners able to splash further cash to jump to 8-core or 12-core processors, as well as 64GB of memory and flash storage drives up to 1TB in size.
