Apple could be set to initiate a long overdue Mac Pro revamp later this month, according to the latest reports.
Mac Daily News makes the claims based on information from “a source who has been correct about Apple product matters in the past.” The source claimed that the announcement may slip into May or even June, but that April is most likely.
Meanwhile Cnet claims that “an April event for a new machine is absolutely not happening,” based on information from a source familiar with Apple’s plans.
A June launch, meanwhile, would probably coincide nicely with Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference. It also represents almost a year since Apple last updated the Mac Pro range.
Back in June 2012 Apple tweaked its Mac Pro desktop line with new processors and an increase in RAM, but it left everything else – including the three-year-old case design and similarly aging ports – untouched.
At the time, Tim Cook responded directly to a disappointed Apple customer with the assurance that “we’re working on something really great for later next year.”
It would seem certain that we’re going to see a brand new Mac Pro at some point this year, then. The question is, will it be this month? If Cook’s words still hold true, then April could be a little early.
