Apple launches initiative to save China’s forests

Apple is teaming up with the World Wildlife Fund to help save China’s forests.
The idea is to help create and support sustainable forests that can provide Apple with its considerable packaging paper needs without destroying acres of forest.
If only you could pack all those Apple Watches in pure hype, eh?
“This collaboration between our two organizations will seek to reduce China’s ecological footprint by helping produce more wood from responsibly managed forests within its own borders,” said WWF China CEO Lo Sze Ping.
According to Apple, the new initiative will serve to protect one million acres of working forests. The ultimate goal is to reach a “net-zero impact” on the world’s supply of wood.
“Forests, like energy, can be renewable resources,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environmental Initiatives. “We believe we can run on naturally renewable resources and ensure that we protect—and create—as much sustainable working forest as needed to produce the virgin paper in our product packaging.”
Apple will also expand its renewable energy projects to its Chinese manufacturing facilities, the company announced.

Apple recently launched its first big solar project in China, installing solar energy-harvesting technology in Sichuan Province.
This latest announcement means that 87 percent of Apple’s global operations now run on renewable energy, with a stated commitment to reach 100 percent at some point in the future.
