Apple and Sonos ‘get a room’ to prove future of audio is wireless

Perhaps the key takeaway from Apple’s most recent keynote was the company’s proclamation that wired audio should be consigned to history.
The 3.5mm jack is gone from the iPhone 7 with Apple stating in no uncertain terms it was time for the century-old technology to be buried under the weight of progress.
And what better way to add weight to that theory than to align itself with one of the world’s foremost purveyors of wireless multi-room audio products?
Yes, Apple has started to sell Sonos’ multi-room products in its online store, and soon in retail outlets.

The Wi-Fi-enabled $199 Sonos Play:1 and the $499 Sonos Play:5 are available from Apple.com today and from brick and mortar stores in the US on October 5.
The partnership will expand to ‘most markets’ in the coming weeks, the firm says.
As a bonus those who buy the system from Apple outlets and online will get a three-month free subscription to Apple Music.
“This is a big deal — both for our companies, and for music lovers around the world who can now experience Sonos and Apple Music like never before,” Sonos wrote in a press release.
Both the Play:1 and the Play:5 can hook up to other Sonos speakers in order to give users high quality audio experience in rooms of their choosing.
