Apple iWatch tipped to feature 2.5-inch display

New Apple Watch rumours have surfaced suggesting the heavily rumoured smartwatch will feature a 2.5-inch touchscreen display.

A panel which would see the Apple watch boast a far larger screen than the 1.63-inch square Samsung Gear 2 or upcoming LG G Watch, it has also been claimed that the iWatch display will be a rectangular offering, posing the possibility of a potential curved form factor.

Apple will introduce a smartwatch with a display that likely measures 2.5 inches diagonally and is slightly rectangular,” an unnamed source reportedly “familiar with the matter” told CNBC.

As well as offering a claimed insight into the iWatch’s screen, the latest reports focusing on Apple’s first wearable have suggested that the techy timepiece will enter mass production next month.

According to the reports, Quanta Computer Inc will begin piecing the Sony SmartWatch 2 and Motorola Moto 360 rival together in a matter of week, pairing the reportedly LG manufactured display with a  raft of motion and activity tracking sensors.

With the Quanta said to currently be in a trial period of iWatch production, the claimed insiders have suggested “Apple expects to ship 50 million units with the first year of the product’s release.”

Although Apple has yet to officially acknowledge the existence of such a device, it is widely believed that an iWatch release date will be held in late September or early October of this year.

Such a launch window would see the smartwatch hit retailers alongside the upcoming, iOS 8 powered, iPhone 6.
