Apple iPhone 5S launch event set for June 20, with July release, report claims

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5S handset will go on sale on sometime in July, following a grand unveiling on June 20th according to reports emanating from Japan.

Although it doesn’t acknowledge where it got its information, the twenty year-old MacFan site reports that the launch event has been set, with the device going on sale a few weeks later.

In its report on the matter, Electronista calls the rumour “plausible” and it certainly goes along with many other rumours presented in recent weeks

A launch in June would see Apple return to the summer release schedule for the first time in three years.

For the last two years, the company has previewed iOS at WWDC in June, before releasing it and a new iPhone in the autumn.

The iPhone 4S launched in October, while last year’s iPhone 5 arrived in September. This followed three straight June launches for the device, which first arrived on the scene in January 2007.

What might Apple’s thinking be behind a summer launch?

Well it would lessen the time that Android handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One and Sony Xperia Z were on sale before a new iPhone is launched.

That time frame currently stands at about six months and a July release date would cut it to just three.

The MacFan report goes onto say that the rumoured low-cost iPhone will be kept back for later in the year, specifically August, with the handset being tailored towards the Indian and Chinese markets.

Do you think the reports can be believed? Will Apple break from recent tradition and launch the iPhone 5S in the summer? Let us know in the comments section below.
