Apple iPad Sells 84 million, takes 68 percent of tablet market

Everyone knows the iPad is the most popular tablet around. And though that might be changing with the advent of high-quality, low-price competitors like the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD, this year has still seen its market share increase – from 62 percent last year to 68 percent to date, and the year isn’t even near its end yet.

While we might prefer clever convertible tablets like the Asus Transformer Infinity, there’s no denying that Apple’s iPad 3 is a gorgeous tablet that runs everything in pin-sharp detail thanks to its Retina Display. People are buying it in droves despite its limitations, and we can’t really blame them as it does so many things well.

Part of its appeal is the massive amount of apps specifically designed for the tablet, which Tim Cook just revealed is now up to a whopping 250,000! That’s a lot of choice.

It kind of makes us wonder if the fruity company will even need to innovate with its iPad 4. But by that time, there will be Windows 8 tablets like the Microsoft Surface to contend with, and we’re thinking the increasing popularity of Android tabs combined with the looming threat of Win 8 hybrids will be enough to give even the iPad juggernaut pause.
