Many websites are experiencing a surge in traffic from Apple’s as-yet-unannounced mobile operating system iOS 7, just over a month before its expected reveal.
Mobile site conversion company Onswipe. has spotted an increase in traffic emanating from iOS 7 in the last week.
The company, which helps companies convert their browser-based sites to HTML5-toting, tablet-friendly devices, have noticed a big spike from iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 7.
Unsurprisingly, most of the traffic seems to be arriving from the Cupertino and San Francisco areas where Apple has its headquarters.
18.75 per cent of all page views from iOS 7 came from San Francisco, while 17.9 per cent of impressions came from Apple’s home town of Cupertino.
As TechCrunch points out, Apple usually tests iOS internally before releasing a Beta version to developers following the WWDC reveal.
The appearance of iOS 7 in traffic tracking services would suggest that Apple has already let more folks outside of its inner circle begin the process of testing iOS 7.
This may be down to rumours that Apple has opted for a design overhaul this year, with many observers expecting iOS 7 to see its biggest changes since Apple first launched the iPhone.
With Jony Ive now heading up the development of both hardware and software at Apple, his influence may lead to a “flatter” interface than we’ve seen in previous iterations.
Despite reports this week suggesting Apple is running behind schedule and wouldn’t be ready for the event, the OS will almost certainly make its first public appearance at the WWDC expo at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on June 10.
