Apple hires tech journalist Anand Shimpi

Apple has hired former tech journalist Anand Shimpi in an as yet unknown capacity.

Shimpi rose to prominence as the founder and editor of AnandTech, a technology website that specialises in extremely detailed technical breakdowns and analysis of new devices.

A few days ago, on August 30, Anand Lal Shimpi announced his retirement from the writing game at the age of 32, some 17 years after he started AnandTech.

In his retirement note, Shimpi stressed that the move wasn’t health related, and that there were no business issues that prompted it either. All he would say about his future plans is that “I won’t stay idle forever. There are a bunch of challenges out there :)”

The following day, Recode revealed the true reason behind Shimpi’s ‘retirement.’ Shimpi has been hired by Apple. Sure enough, Apple itself has since confirmed the news, though there’s been no word on what Shimpi’s role will be within the organisation whose products he once covered in such depth.

Shimpi has previously taken on consultancy work that has seen him working with hardware manufacturers on technical issues, but the possibilities for his new role extend beyond engineering to PR and marketing and even supply chain logistics.

Presumably all will become clear in good time. For now, Apple will want all attention to be on its September 9 event, which promises to include the launch of two iPhone 6 models and a range of wearables that most are addressing under the iWatch moniker.
