Apple’s future looks dim as Night Shift tipped for Apple Watch, CarPlay and Apple TV
Apple is reportedly bringing the Night Shift mode from iOS to its other software platforms.
Night Shift was one of the more high profile features Apple added to iOS 9.3 at the turn of the year. It essentially alters the tone of your iPhone or iPad’s screen at night, cutting down on the blue light that tricks your brain into thinking it’s still day time.
It’s also simply much easier on your eyes in dark conditions.
Now a fresh patent has emerged suggesting that Apple wants to bring Night Shift to its other software platforms. As pointed out by Patently Apple, the company has filed for the ‘Night Shift’ trademark in the US and Hong Kong.
The latter in particular offers the possibility of Night Shift on other Apple devices. Among the many applications of the Night Shift feature, Apple’s Hong Kong filing mentions motor vehicle audio apparatus, television monitors, smartwatches, computer hardware, and laptop computers.

This would appear to open the way for Night Shift to make its way to Apple CarPlay, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and MacOS.
Of course, the patent application also lists “egg-candlers; dog whistles; decorative magnets; electrified fences; portable remote-controlled car retarders; and electrically heated socks,” so don’t go taking this as definitive proof of Apple’s Night Shift plans.
