Apple acknowledges iOS 7 iMessage issues, working on a fix

Apple has acknowledged that some iOS 7 users are experiencing issues with the iMessage service and is working on a fix.

With a resolution coming as part of an over-the-air update, Apple is already working on ironing out the iMessage problems people are having since installing iOS 7.

“We are aware of an issue that affects a fraction of a per cent of our iMessage users, and we will have a fix available in an upcoming software update”, said Apple in a statement. “In the meantime, we encourage any users having problems to reference our troubleshooting documents or contact AppleCare to help resolve their issue. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes impacted users.”

iOS 7 users complained of the iMessage issues on Twitter and Apple’s message boards, detailing problems sending messages using the service, which allows iOS users to send free messages to each other.

According to the users, the iMessages appear to be sent, but when they checked back later, the messages have a big red exclamation mark beside them to indicate failure to send.

It is suggested that the iMessage fix will arrive as part of iOS 7.0.3 update landing next week, with the minor update apparently already pushed to Apple employees and its partners.

Apple released the iOS 7.0.2 update last week to fix lock screen issues that allowed potential intruders to bypass the lock screen passcode on the latest mobile OS.

To coincide with the launch of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Apple also released the iOS 7.0.1 update as a day one patch for the duo of new iPhones. This first update resolved an issue with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5S.

The Cupertino company is also expected to release iOS 7.1 along with the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 on October 15, potentially bringing a couple of new features with it.
