Apple has opened an academy at a university in Italy, making it the first of its kind in the world.
The tech giant is encouraging the growth of great developers by offering tuition in the art of app making. The course – which runs for 9 months – will cover coding, app design as well as start-up creation and is part of a plan to continue Apple’s involvement in Europe.

The University of Naples Frederico II, Italy is hosting the iOS developer Academy, which is home to 200 students. As you can imagine, the course was hugely oversubscribed – apparently over 4,000 people applied. Fortunately, the course will be expanded next year, maxing out at 400 students. What’s more, thanks to a €10 million investment from both the university and Apple, the course will be completely free.
Sounds good, right? Well it gets better.

“Apple thinks that all of these activities, learning and rest and so on, have to stay very close to each other, because this is the best way to ensure that the concepts are absorbed and understood very well”, Leopoldo Angrisani, the professor who created the course, told The Guardian.
Tim Cooked has hailed Europe as being home to “the most creative developers in the world”. Apple is “thrilled to be helping the next generation of entrepreneurs in Italy get the skills they need for success”.
