If you’ve got an Android device, chances are you don’t have Android N – the latest version of Google’s mobile OS – just yet. After all, it’s still in developer preview mode and we’re not really expecting a stable release until the Autumn.
That said, we’ve already had a fairly extensive look at Android N (Nutella?), as Google unveiled its latest operating system back in March, so we know it’s got loads of cool features.

One of these is the ability to reply to notifications right from the shade, which is pretty nifty. If you want to get this feature but aren’t confident of installing the Android N developer preview, quickReply is an app that can help.
QuickReply basically emulates this feature, detecting when a message is landing and then overlaying its own ‘Reply’ and ‘Direct’ buttons on to the shade.
‘Reply’ is pretty self-explanatory and lets you respond to a message, while ‘Direct’ offers you a bunch of canned responses to choose from if you’re in a hurry.
You can check it out now over the Play Store, where you’ll also find a list of the various messaging apps that should be supported (though others may be as well).
Note that your mileage with quickReply may vary depending on your device and how heavy a skin it comes with, as well as your region.
Also, the app is in beta mode, so it may not run seamlessly just yet. Floatify is another app with similar functionality, if quickReply doesn’t turn out to be your cup of tea.
