AMD is set to retire its classic Catalyst driver brand and bring in a revamped interface under the name AMD Radeon Software.
Completely rebuilt from the ground up, the new interface’s first notable feature is that it will startup far faster than the notoriously sluggish software of old.
It’ll also come with yearly major updates, each of which will get its own name, in a manner akin to Google’s Android software versions.
The first iteration of the driver will thus be called AMD Radeon
Software Crimson, with subsequent names also riffing on the red theme.
As well as replacing the consumer driver interface, the software will also include developer-centric changes all of which will be wrapped up in these major releases.

Radeon Settings will be the direct replacement for the Catalyst Control Center that end users will be familiar with and it will contain all the usual settings for tweaking your computer’s display, 3D game settings and video settings.
However, the whole interface has been rejigged and new settings and options introduced, including a Game Manager, Video Quality presets, Social Media integration, Simplified EF setup and a System notifications tab.
The first Crimson iteration of AMD Radeon Settings will be available to download for free for all AMD users before the end of the year, with more details of the software to be released over the coming weeks.
