AMD has announced the latest AMD Radeon R7 265 graphics card, with a 25 per cent performance increase over its predecessor.
The R7 265 is the latest in the AMD Radeon series and AMD claims it offers the best performance of any graphics card available for the same price.
It is the highest performing of all the AMD Radeon R7 GPUs, offering 25 per cent performance over the AMD Radeon R7 260X.
As standard the AMD Radeon R7 265 offers 2GB of GDDR5 memory on a fast 256-bit memory interface. It also supports DirectX 11.2 and OpenGL 4.3 and features AMD CrossFire technology.
Similar to the AMD Radeon R9 290X GPU released in October last year, the R7 265 features AMD’s Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture at its core, helped along by AMD’s Mantle.
The R7 265 is equipped with AMD PowerTune in order to keep the graphics card within its power consumption limits.
Unlike the high-end R9 graphics card, the R7 only supports full 1080p HD gaming rather than 4K Ultra HD, but for the price that’s what we expected.
AMD states that the R7 265 offers engine clock speeds up to 925MHz and the compute performance is 1.89 TFLOPS.
The AMD Radeon R7 265 will be available for $149/€109 or around £90 – all plus VAT – from late February.
Due to the R7 265’s release, AMD is dropping the price of the AMD Radeon R7 260X to $119/€89 plus VAT, which will be around £73 here in the UK.
