Amazon unveils 4K Fire TV

Amazon has just announced a brand new version of its Fire TV set-top box.

The new Amazon Fire TV is good for 4K/Ultra HD video playback, meaning it’s relatively future-proofed.

It’s doubly good news because Amazon already offers a number of movies and TV shows in 4K resolution.

It also means Amazon’s Fire TV is the first 4K Ultra HD streaming set-top box in the UK.

Amazon first introduced Fire TV last year, although the original version could only handle Full HD footage at best.

The team has packed an incredible amount of technology and innovation into a tiny package,” explains Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO.

Amazon boasts that its new Fire TV is 75% more powerful than the previous iteration.

The online retail giant also talks up claimed “best-in-class Wi-Fi” and a roster of 3,000 channels, apps, and games.

It’s also worth noting that you can now boost the Fire TV’s storage by 128GB using a microSD card – that’s on top of the 8GB built-in storage.

The new box is available to pre-order right now for £79.99, and will begin shipping on October 5.

Amazon has also upgraded its Fire TV Stick offering, now peddling a bundled Voice Remote with the player.

The voice remote (originally released with last year’s Fire TV box) lets you speak the name of a movie, TV show, actor, director, genre – you get the idea – out loud to quickly find what you’re looking for.

The new Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote bundle is up for pre-order for £44.99, and starts shipping on October 22.
