Amazon axes Ripper Street after saving it from the BBC

Amazon has just axed the Ripper Street TV series after just five series.
The programme was originally aired on BBC, but was dropped in late 2013 due to low viewing figures.
Amazon picked it up from the third season, and is currently filming a fifth season of the show.
However, Amazon has decided not to commission a sixth season of the show, signalling an end to the show’s four-year run.
Ripper Street is a Victorian detective drama set in Whitechapel, London, in 1889.
The series takes place six months after the Jack the Ripper murders, and follows a police team solving crimes in East London.
The fifth season of the show is due to air later this year on Amazon Video.

No reason has been given for the cancellation, but we’d guess low viewing figures were once again to blame.
