Amazon is said to be looking at adding additional on-demand networks to its Prime Video offering.
Amazon Prime Video is Amazon’s response to Netflix, offering a range of films, TV shows, and original programming for Prime customers to stream.
But the online retail giant could be looking to expand its service significantly, if a recent Bloomberg report is to be believed.
Sources claim that in future, Prime customers will have the option of adding other online subscription streaming services to their packages. This will apparently include major movie and TV channels, though it seems it won’t stretch to live TV.
This new chord-cutting option could well go live as soon as next month, claims the report.
Amazon will reportedly sell prepackaged bundles of these channels, and it’s also working on a way for customers to sign into other streaming services using their Amazon account credentials.
Despite this integrated approach, customers will still be well aware that they are using separate services to access their content. Amazon is reportedly creating dedicated landing pages for its partners within Prime.
So what’s in it for these other, seemingly rival services? They get access to Amazon’s vast customer base (thought by some estimates to number 44 million), as well as reaching younger users who may not necessarily sign up to TV services through traditional cable TV packages.
