Amazon Prime Video now has a Windows 10 desktop app

Amazon Prime Video’s desktop app is now live on the Microsoft Store. Windows 10 users can download the app and catch up on their favourite Amazon Prime shows and movies.

The app allows users to stream shows as usual, but also offers the option to download them and watch offline. The feature is handy if you have a long journey ahead, or don’t want to chew through your data when you’re out and about with your laptop.

Amazon Prime Video features a range of star-studded series and films, from critically acclaimed comedy, Fleabag, to Al Pacino’s new series, Hunters.

The entertainment streaming industry is a fiercely competitive one at the moment, with the likes of Disney Plus, Netflix and HBO Max all competing to attract viewers. Doubtless, the new desktop app from Amazon Prime Video is intended to help them keep up with competitors who already offer similar apps.

The app itself is free for Amazon Prime Video subscribers. However, you will of course need an Amazon Prime subscription. This costs £7.99 a month or £79 a year.

There’s plenty of great content on Amazon Prime Video – as the platform has been forced to invest in content as more competitors appeared in the marketplace. New additions are still arriving, including the likes of Quibi, and forcing Amazon to up their game.

Right now, some of the highlights, (beyond Fleabag and Hunters,) are the critically acclaimed historical dramas, Vikings and Victoria, as well as a whole host of films. We particularly recommend the 2002 Tom Cruise classic, Minority Report. Other highlights include classic western remake True Grit (2010), iconic war film The Great Escape (1963) and touching, bleak drama, Manchester by the Sea (2016).
