Amazon’s physical game pre-order discounts are about to be killed off

Amazon has announced the end of its physical game pre-order discounts, so you’ll want to get your final pre-orders in before it’s gone for good.

There’s no shortage of reasons to sign up for an Amazon Prime membership, from expedited delivery to streaming perks like Amazon Prime Instant Video and Amazon Music. For the gamers out there, a much-loved added perk was the discount on physical game pre-orders.

This saw you net yourself a saving of £2 on pre-orders, on top of Amazon’s pre-order price guarantee. The latter meant that if the price dropped before release, you were guaranteed to pay the lower price. The £2 saving on top was the icing on the cake.

Well, bad news gamers. In an email sent out to Prime customers, Amazon has announced it’s killing off the pre-order discount from August 7th 2018. That’s a real shame, but if there’s any solace, it’s the fact that you can still squeeze in your last few pre-orders before that date.

If you haven’t already seen it, here’s the pertinent part of the e-mail from Amazon:

“We would now like to inform you that we will no longer offer the Prime discount of £2 on physical video game pre-orders from 7 August, 2018. You can still use this Prime discount without restriction until this date and you will continue to receive all these Twitch Prime benefits:

  • Discount codes for new video game releases
  • Bonus games that are yours to keep every month
  • Monthly subscription for your favourite Twitch streamer
  • In-game loot including outfits, vehicles and items, plus surprises and exclusives for popular games”

Considering we’ve still got some major releases lined up for later in the year, now’s probably a good time to get those pre-orders in.
