Amazon Phone could sport 4.7-inch screen

The highly-reported Amazon smartphone could launch with a 4.7-inch screen, according to industry supply chain sources.

Speaking to Taiwanese rumour mill DigiTimes, its fairly infamous sources have information that suggests the reported Amazon smartphone could launch with an HTC One rivalling 4.7-inch screen.

“The company is reportedly going to use a 4.3-inch screen but later scrapped the idea after witnessing increased demand for larger size screens among consumers,” said the sources.

With larger displays adorning the latest wave of smartphones to be released, including the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z and Samsung Galaxy S4, Amazon has reportedly bumped the size of its much-rumoured smartphone.

The sources also indicated that the retail giant has been working to enhance other features and specs of the smartphone, but didn’t confirm whether these adjustments were the cause of the suggested delayed release date.

Earlier this month, rumours suggested that the Amazon smartphone would not be arriving within its scheduled production slot of Q2 2013, but gave no reason for such a delay apart from “the production progress at its manufacturing partner, Foxconn International Holdings, has not been as smooth as expected.”

It is believed the Amazon smartphone should wield a budget price tag, like the company did for its first tablet, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD. Reports have been suggesting that it could cost as little as £100.

Like its tablets, the smartphone should run on its Silk browser, a modified Android OS transformed by Amazon’s own UI.

Of course, there has been no official word from Amazon as to whether the smartphone exists, and as of yet there have been no rumours surrounding the handset’s design and specs sheet.
