Amazon offers Prime members unlimited cloud photo storage

Amazon has opened up a new incentive to join its Prime membership scheme – unlimited cloud photo storage.

The online retail giant recently revealed Prime Photos, which offers to provide unlimited online photo storage for its customers regardless of the device used to take and upload them.

Photos appear to be stored in their original full resolution, and RAW files are also supported.

Amazon confirms that iOS and Android devices can be used to upload these photos, as well as Mac and Windows computers and of course the company’s own Fire range of tablets and phone.

“Most people have a lifetime of birthdays, vacations, holidays, and everyday moments stored across numerous devices. And, they continue to create billions of photos every year,” notes Amazon. “Now, Prime members have a simple, secure place to store them all for free.”

However, this new unlimited storage offer only applies to US customers at present. Here in the UK, we’re still stuck with 5GB of cloud photo storage unless we own a Fire Phone or one of the latest Kindle Fire tablets.

You can bet that this new Prime Photos initiative will make its way to other countries before too long, though.

Prime costs £79 per year, and offers free next day delivery on packages, 500,000 Kindle ebooks for free, and unlimited movie and TV show streaming through Amazon Prime Instant Video, among other benefits.
