Amazon offers Kindle Fire HDX on interest-free payment plan

Amazon has introduced a new payment plan for its Kindle Fire HDX tablet range over in the US, where you can now purchase one over nine months interest-free.

The company seems extremely keen to get its latest tablet devices into homes, with a couple of recent initiatives including Black Friday price slash and the option of a 30 day trial.

Amazon’s latest initiative is to offer the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 and the Kindle Fire HDX 7 on a nine month payment plan. This involves paying the full amount ($379 for the former, $229 for the latter) in four instalments spaced 90 days apart.

The most interesting thing here is that Amazon won’t charge any interest on this payment plan. Of course, if you don’t cough up the cash as agreed there will be a penalty, but it won’t be a sky-high bill.

Rather, as a kind of flip side to the Mayday feature that enables the company to take control of your tablet and help you resolve issues, Amazon will essentially brick your Kindle Fire HDX remotely.

“Our remedies will include the right to deregister your Kindle Fire HDX device, which will block your ability to access Amazon content from your Kindle Fire HDX device,” claims the blurb.

Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HD payment plan isn’t available in the UK at present, but we’ll keep an eye out for any such introduction – presumably now in the New Year, if at all.
