Amazon Kindle with Paperwhite display leaks

A brand new Amazon Kindle device with a so-called ‘Paperwhite’ display has leaked onto the net. This comes a week ahead of Amazon’s September 6 event, where a host of new Kindles is expected to be announced.

It’s easy to forget about Amazon’s traditional E Ink models, with much of the attention and hype leading up to the company’s September 6 event surrounding the Amazon Kindle Fire 2 and a possible 10-inch variant.

But the E Ink Kindles arguably remain the finest way to read e-books on the go, and Amazon won’t be abandoning them just to chase down the Apple iPad.

This latest leak, which comes courtesy of The Verge, shows a device that appears to be a replacement for the Kindle Touch. The basic shape and dimensions of the refresh appear to be the same, but the physical button below the display seems to be gone.

Apparently the new Kindle will boast “higher contrast, high resolution, integrated lighting, and eight weeks of battery life.”

The biggest addition, however, is that of a so-called ‘Paperwhite’ display. This will be a step on from the Pearl E Ink display technology that has found its way into every Amazon Kindle since the third generation, and will also incorporate a backlight.
