Amazon Fresh coming to UK this month

Amazon may start offering a fresh grocery delivery service in the UK this month, according to reports.

The online retail giant has been offering its Amazon Fresh delivery service in the US since 2007, but it could finally be set to spread to the UK.

Amazon UK has been testing a fresh grocery delivery service from its depot in east London. Now, according to The Guardian, it has asked its suppliers to begin deliveries within the next few weeks.

One of those suppliers appeared to give the game away in a trade magazine. Bol supplies Amazon with chilled meals, and it told Grocer that it would be providing salad bowls to Amazon Fresh from 18 May.

Just recently, Amazon appointed the former head of Asda’s online operations, Doug Gurr, to head up its UK operation.

Initial signs that such a service was imminent appeared back in February, when Amazon announced a partnership with Morrisons to deliver fresh food on its behalf.

Amazon also started offering select frozen food items on its Prime Now service back in September. Then, in November, it launched Amazon Pantry in the UK, which offered 4,000 common items across food, drink, household supplies, baby and child-care, pet, health, and beauty products.
