Amazon Fire TV Stick now shipping in UK

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is now shipping to UK customers, after being made available to pre-order late last month.

The Fire TV Stick is essentially a slimmed down version of Amazon’s Fire TV set top box, and was first unveiled in October last year.

It first landed in the USA, but it’s now crossed the pond, taking the fight to rivals like Google’s Chromecast and the Roku Streaming Stick.

Amazon says the Fire TV Stick is its fastest-selling UK device, setting a week one record.

“We expected Fire TV Stick to be popular, but the customer response has just blown us away,” said Jorrit Van der Meulen, Amazon’s VP of Devices for Europe.

“For just £35, Fire TV Stick delivers powerful performance and access to a vast selection of content apps, and games.”

He added: “The phenomenal demand has made Fire TV Stick our fastest-selling device ever in the UK in the first week after going on sale, and we think our customers are going to love it.”

The Amazon Fire TV Stick works just like its competitors, insofar as that it plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and connects to your Wi-Fi network.

From there, you’ll be able to stream a host of Amazon-powered content, as well as third-party apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Spotify.

Computing heft comes courtesy of a dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of built-in storage.

Amazon claims its Fire TV Stick is six times more powerful than Roku’s Streaming Stick, and boasts four times the storage and twice the memory of Google’s Chromecast.
