Amazon Cloud Drive gains Dropbox-like file sync capability

Amazon has turned its Cloud Drive service into a full-on Dropbox rival with the ability to sync files across all of your devices.

Amazon Cloud Drive now allows you to synchronise your cloud-stored photos, documents, videos and other digital files with multiple computers, as well as accessing them from your smart devices.

Install the Amazon Cloud Drive application on your computer – whether Windows or Mac – and you’ll received 5GB of free storage space, which is significantly more than the 2GB of free storage you currently get with Dropbox.

Amazon launched its Cloud Player service in the US with a focus on the facility to upload your music files into the cloud two years ago. Even then, however, you could also upload your pictures, videos and documents in addition to your music files.

However, it wasn’t until a year later – last May, to be precise – that Amazon launched a Cloud Drive app for Windows and Mac. This allowed you to manage your cloud-stored files from your desktop, but the app was criticised for lacking the ability to sync files over multiple computers.

Today’s announcement, while seemingly small, brings the service more into line with major cloud storage rivals like Dropbox, SkyDrive and Google Drive by correcting this original omission.

Are you considering switching to Amazon Cloud Drive in place of Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud? Or are you too firmly entrenched in one of these services to make the switch? Let us know in the comments section below, or via the Trusted Reviews Twitter and Facebook feeds.
