Alpine Announces In-Car iPod Integration

iPod car integration units are becoming increasingly popular. This solution from Alpine could be the best one yet.

So you want to listen to your iPod music in your car? In-car audio company Alpine may have the answer for you with the announcment of an iPod interface for its own brand of Ai-NET head units.

This Alpine solution adds to the increasing list of methods of getting your iPod audio in your car. It works with third and fourth generation iPods and the iPod mini.

The in-car iPod craze started off with wireless solutions such as the iTrip, but wired connections are more reliable and provide higher quality audio.

The KCA-420i interface is a small box that can be placed under the dash or in the boot out of sight. Once connected you can use the rotary dials on your head unit for navigating your iPod. You can even do this while a track is playing so you don’t have to interrupt the music. The system offers a single plug connection and charges the iPod while hooked up.

Alpine isn’t the first to offer something like this. BMW recently announced, “the first seamless integration of iPod and automobile”, as it’s own advert put it. ( Dension also offers a way of mixing car and iPod with its ICE Link.

The Alpine solution however, looks to be the most comprehensive system yet, with full track information available on the head unit, instead of just a track number. And if you go for one of Alpine’s LCD equipped AV units you’ll get even move track information displayed.

“Consumer interest in our Interface Adapter for iPod has been phenomenal,” said Graham Johnson, Sales & Marketing Director of Alpine Electronics of UK Ltd. “There is clearly an eager market of users who want a better sounding and easier to use solution for enjoying their iPod music in the car. This is the in-vehicle solution iPod users have been waiting for.”

The KCA-420i will cost £69.90 and will be available from September. Of course you’ll also need to have an Ai-NET equipped Alpine head unit. To find out more go here.
