Alienware Steam Machine to cost as much as Xbox One, claims that’s a bargain

The recently confirmed Alienware Steam Machine will be priced comparably with the premium Xbox One, with the gaming manufacturer claiming that this will be a bargain.

The PC gaming specialist was one of many gaming makers to unveil new Steam Machine designs last week, with the company’s connected console now tipped to launch in September. The console will run Valve’s Steam OS and be capable of playing downloadable games.

Now, although an exact Alienware Steam Machine price has yet to be confirmed, the company has claimed pricing the console comparably with the Xbox One, a console which costs £429 in the UK, will be a great deal for consumers.

“The commitment we are making from a price perspective is that it will be competitive with Xbox One and PS4,” Bryan De Zayas, Alienware’s Global Marketing Director told TrustedReviews. Remaining relatively vague on details he added:  “That price will be for the box and we will be shipping it with a Valve controller.”

Although some gamers are sure to see the Alienware Steam Machine price being comparable to the Xbox One as a major, costly drawback, the company has suggested this will offer better value that Microsoft’s next-gen console – despite the Xbox offering an integrated Blu-ray player, more enhanced entertainment features and a second-generation Kinect motion gaming peripheral.

“From a price point perspective, we actually think that costing as much as an Xbox One or PS4 is going to be a big benefit,” De Zayas told us. “It will help better align us with that mentality from a gaming perspective that this fits in the same living room model.”

What’s more, the company has claimed that an Xbox One themed price will make the Alienware Steam Machine a better value device than what consumers could otherwise build themselves.

“Nobody will be able to build their own computer, that will perform this well, at the price we are going to be selling it for,” Alienware General Manager Frank Azor said speaking with TrustedReviews.

“In the past, there has been a premium when it comes to buying Alienware PCs, that is absolutely not going to be the case for this product.”

He added: “We can’t announce the exact price point yet, but when we do and people do the math, they aren’t going to be able to build it for the same price themselves.

“We are going to get the latest and greatest Intel CPUs, we are going to get the latest and greatest NVIDIA GPUs in this box, you are going have great memory configuration, great hard drive configuration, optimised performance, an incredible form factor.”
