Acetrax Movies has announced that it will be closing in June, as the service will be integrated into the Sky Go and NOW TV services.
The film on-demand service Acetrax Movies will close from June 21, according to an email to regular users.
Now displaying a notice on its website, viewers are being informed that Acetrax Movies will no longer exist from June 21, as the service is being integrated into Sky’s other on-demand services, Sky Go and NOW TV.
“We are writing to tell you that the service will close on Friday 21 June 2013,” reads the user email announcement. “Don’t worry, you can still watch movies you’ve already rented until this date and you may be able to keep movies you have purchased.”
Acquired by Sky in 2012, Acetrax technology has now been embedded in the Sky Go and NOW TV services in order to develop them further by the company.
“Having successfully integrated the Acetrax over-the-top technology and capability into our business, we are now managing down the small video-on-demand service still operating under the Acetrax brand,” said Sky in a statement. “Once that process is complete, our OTT efforts will focus on Sky Go and NOW TV, through which we continue to build leadership and scale in internet TV.”
Similar to the Tesco owned BlinkBox service, Acetrax Movies allowed customers to watch the latest movies on-demand, without a monthly subscription. It claimed to offer the latest film releases before its competitors Netflix and LoveFilm Instant, and the option to rent or buy movies on the same day as they were released on DVD.
Movie rentals cost from £1.49 to £4.49 or users could opt to purchase them from £5.99.
Anyone who regularly uses Acetrax Movies should head to the service’s website and read the FAQs, which explains how to keep hold of any movies purchased, vouchers, credit and how long they’ll be able to keep their rentals.
