Certainly looks very much like the device we all hope will soon debut from Apple...
With all the fuss about a hotly anticipated upgrade to the video capable iPod could Acer be ready to deal us all a major surprise?
The leaked MP-500 certainly shares more than one or two familiarities with the changes predicted for Apple’s latest headliner. There is a touchscreen 3.5in LCD (320 x 240 res) display, choice of 20GB or 40GB hard drives and support for all the usual audio, video and picture formats.
As for connectivity there will be video out and USB though WiFi remains unconfirmed. At this stage the weight is only detailed as being under 200g and battery life is an unofficial four hours for video and eight for music.
Now apart from the silver finish this looks scarily like the so widely Photoshopped design for Apple’s (still unconfirmed) next gen player. Its obvious weak points are the eight hours of music playback and – potentially – the 320 x 240 screen resolution, if the 640 x 480 iPod rumours are to be believed. A muted $350 to $415 price range could do it a few favours though…
More importantly in my eyes, however, is that this design confirms that digital audio/video players are indeed moving towards a widescreen, touch screen format and if Apple hasn’t actually got such as device up its sleeve it could well get left behind…
