Google About Me page enables privacy tweaks across multiple apps

Google has dropped a new web page allowing users to update publicly displayed information across the firm’s array of platforms.

The Google About Me page enables the privacy settings to be tweaked on multiple Google apps such as YouTube, Hangouts, Google and Google Drive. The page (via Wired) provides a single venue for adjusting the information users share with the world.

Users can adjust their personal and work contact information, education and employment history, as well as the places they’ve lived. It’s also possible to control who sees gender, birthday, occupation, personal websites and social network URLs, as well as the visibility of folks in Google+ Circles.

Google account holders will also be able to switch out the profile photo that’s visible across the various apps associated with it.

The easy-to-use Cards will go through each app one at a time and ask users to adjust their public and private data accordingly. For example, in the YouTube section, it’s possible to choose whether subscriptions and liked videos are public or private, or whether video updates are posted to the user’s feed.

Users will be able to see which data is public and which isn’t, judging by a green globe or a padlock. We’re sure you can work out which is which.

Previously a feature within Google+, About Me is now being spun out into its own feature as Google continues to pare back its overbearing social network.

It’s the second major feature to be separated , after Photos became its own entity earlier this year.
