A voice-to-emoji keyboard makes written English redundant

Do you feel like you’re being left behind by the modern penchant for emojis over the written word? Well a new app is coming to the rescue this festive season.

The SpeakEmoji app for iOS and Android enables emojiphobes to simply speak into their device’s microphone and have their speech converted directly into emojis.

Somewhat perversely (or quite helpfully, depending on your perspective) the recipient can translate the emoji back to text or reply in kind with emoji.

In a press release sent on Thursday, developer SapientNitro said the app “helps parents and relatives break through the kids’ smartphone trance by speaking to them in their own language – emoji – and in doing so, make Christmas the meaningful family time it’s supposed to be.”

So there you have it… who’d have thought emojis could save Christmas?

You can download it now for iOS and Android or give it a try on the web.
