Most gadgets experience teething problems in their first few months of life, and it looks like the Nintendo Switch is not going to buck that trend.
A series of complaints from users popped up via Nintendo Everything yesterday, claiming that the console has started taking random screenshots without any prompt.
One user said: “I have noticed over the past few days that my switch is taking screen shots without me pressing the capture button. I’m not sure if it is on an interval but I have noticed it only happening when in handheld mode or when using the joycons not the pro controller.”
Some have even reported the unauthorised screenshots happening when the snap-happy console is in Sleep mode, causing it to wake up after startling users with its shutter sound.
Others are suggesting that the glitch might be somehow related to Minecraft because the unauthorised screenshots only started happening after they installed the game – although it doesn’t necessarily happen while they’re playing it.
A report from Kotaku gives credence to the Minecraft theory. The author Matt Wales is one of the Switch users who started noticing the annoying screenshot glitch after installing the Minecraft Switch Edition, which was released on Friday.
He says: “Right now, I’ve got a dozen random shots of Disgaea 5 sitting merrily in my Switch’s album menu.”
A few users have banished the glitch with a simple restart, but the unlucky few who can’t shake it off are still waiting for a fix from Nintendo. Meanwhile, Nintendo has released a firmware update in the last 24 hours, but it’s not clear yet whether it can resolve the issue.
