Sony Xperias to get Android Marshmallow on 7 March

Sony Mobile UK has revealed that a host of its Xperia range of devices will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update next month.

Responding to a question from an Xperia user on Twitter (via AndroidPolice), the company’s British account said the latest version will hit the Xperia Z5 series as well as the Z4 Tablet and Z3+ on 7 March.

The company said it planned to share the confirmed timing at the appropriate time.

Sony may also choose to share additional handsets receiving the update at the Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona next week.

The Japanese giant has announced a press conference for 22 February at around 7:30am UK time.

Although it’s yet to be confirmed, Sony may choose to reveal an Xperia Z6 handset during the press conference, just six months on from the launch of the Z5.

The company may also choose to fill out the launch roster with Mini, Compact, Plus and Ultra versions of the device, with screen sizes varying between 4-inches and 6.4-inches.

It also appears likely that Sony will release the Xperia Z6 tablet and perhaps the long-overdue Smartwatch 4. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get a little info on PlayStation VR?

We’ll be in attendance at Sony’s press event to bring you all of the news as it happens.
