4K Apple iMac may be on the way, OS X El Capitan beta hints

Apple may be planning to fill a gap in its iMac arsenal, judging by code spotted within the latest beta version of Mac OS X El Capitan.

9to5Mac has discovered references to a near-4K Retina display, which suggests the firm may be planning to launch a version of its all-in-one desktop computer with a higher-resolution monitor.

The firm currently makes a 5K 27-inch iMac, but the 21.5-inch iteration is still floundering on a non-Retina resolution of 1920 x 1080.

The reference within El Capitan promises support for a 4096 x 2304 resolution display, as well as the 5120 x 2880 27-inch 5K model.

Elsewhere, within the new Mac OS X beta, 9to5Mac has discovered a file which suggests Apple is working on a new Bluetooth Remote Control.

The file’s contents hints the remote will have a dedicated Bluetooth chip, an infrared sensor and a multi-touch trackpad, something heavily rumoured for an Apple TV hardware refresh.

The site says there could also be reference to Force Touch support within the file, while it’s also said to support audio meaning Siri may be built in.

Apple launched new beta versions of OS X and iOS 9 to developers this week as well as a new test version of the next-gen WatchOS.
