3G iPhone Specs Leaked By Internal Tester

So what's it got...?

With 8GB iPhones more scarce than Derby County clean sheets – it seems the ludicrously hyped 3G edition must be just around the corner – and this is apparently what we can expect…

Prolific tech bloggers Engadget claim to have received word from “a trusted source” who has been testing a pre-production second generation iPhone of the following details:

*’3G’ (duh)

*GPS – good news since this has been under some doubt

*A new glossy black finish and chrome volume buttons – eek, fingerprint hell (photo below is not thought to be it but gives an idea)

*”Roughly the same” size screen (3.5in) and resolution (480 x 320 pixels)

*Same form factor but with more rounded edges

*A slight increase in thickness

*A flush headphone jack (goodbye adaptors)

*Battery remains non-removable (Apple stop doing this)

*A release as early as July (which would make RIM look silly)

Notable omissions – considering this source has supposedly ”used” the handset – are fundamentals such as weight, battery life, camera and storage. This seems somewhat iffy, so remember your daily doses of NaCl for now.

In related news O2 has officially declared both the 8GB iPhone and iPod touch to have reached their EOL (End of Life). This means all stock will not be replenished which certainly seems to be the case. That said, why O2 and the Carphone Warehouse continue to market the £169 handset offer so heavily seems a mystery.

Ultimately, whatever the ”real truth” behind all this at least we’re one week closer to finding out… (and one week closer to me needing to replace my I.P.H.O.N and E keys).
