Absolutely 110 per cent according to Think Secret...
We’ll be able to confirm this to you later today, but incase you’d like one last round of speculation – and perhaps even having the surprise blown, Think Secret says it knows – 110 per cent – what we’re all about to see.
It’s a 3.5in touchscreen video-centric iPod that shares the same screen and multi-touch inspired interface as the iPhone (and therefore look potentially?) but without all the phone-y nonsense.
Interestingly, TS also claims the rumours that Apple plans to drop HDDs in favour of SDDs is premature with the technology not quite at a viable size/price point. Instead it boasts the new range will be kitted out with 1.8in HDDs in capacities up to 120GB.
Less likely apparently is WiFi and support for digital radio playback (I can’t see the latter either: it would detract from iTunes sales).
At the same time, TS also says we’ll definitely be getting a new iPod nano. As we’d already heard, it will be wider to accommodate a larger screen, have video functionality, 12 to 14GB of flash memory and an interface like the one I reported back in July (I just thought back then it was for the iPod itself). Coverflow browsing is also on the menu, but the Clickwheel will remain.
The possibility of The Beatles on iTunes also once again raises its thorny legal head. Let’s not even go there.
To be rumour rubbish or not to be rumour rubbish that is the question. Personally speaking I’d give this chitter chatter a lot of weight because so close to an official announcement TS would taking a huge creditability risk if it wasn’t ”really” sure…
Either way, we’ll all know soon.
