£299 Xbox 360 OUT 25 November

That's what we hear... (This is what is sounds like, when wallets cry)

Before Chrimbo was the talk for the Xbox 360, now before December is what all the cool kids are saying. Looks like we’re going to have to dig deep though…

£299 (including VAT) is the mooted price for Microsoft’s second crack at the console market and supposedly it is all Sony’s fault. Apparently recent statements made by Ken Kutaragi, president of the King of All Things Proprietary (or KATP as it doesn’t like to be known), which went on about how expensive the PS3 could be has lead to Evil Lord Redmond loosening its belt. Though has anyone considered that with the PS3 set to debut at least three months after the Xbox 360 that old Ken could be indulging in a bit of gamesmanship?

Anyway, the UK price has at least led to hilarious howling from our war mongering, hip hop lovin’ friends across the pond who responded to the news by exclaiming just how awful it would be to pay $500. Clearly, Yanks knock the “Not Being American Tax” off in their currency conversions automatically these days… Jammy sods!

Now despite all of this envy and hearsay, I still have my hopes that we inhabitants of Rip-Off Isle will see something closer to sanity (also known as the £200 mark) come the purported Friday 25 November launch date. Especially since Sony is now dropping cheeky hints that it may sell the PS3 for well under cost price.

Go on Microsoft, be your own (geekish) men. I appeal to your shared single heart: ”Be Reasonable”. After all, if Sony says “Jump!”, do you really want to give the impression of replying “Oh alright then, but by the way how high are you planning to go?”
