19in Samsung Laptop Loses Power Brick

Is it a desktop? Is it a notebook? No, it's a desknote!

While we here at TrustedReviews have a unanimous love for sleek and small notebooks in the vein of the Sony TZ series and its ilk, we do have to concede that there is a market of users who want desktop level hardware in a notebook sized package. If you fall into that category then Samsung’s latest 19in offering, in the form of the Sens G25, may be of interest to you. News site Aving USA has stumbled across an interesting notebook and desktop hybrid it dubs the “desknote.” The generously sized screen (resolution undeclared) has a quoted 1,000:1 contrast ratio.

In addition, the G25 boasts a generous seven USB 2.0 ports, a huge (by laptop standards) 320GB hard-drive and a full numeric pad just like a desktop PC. The main defining feature of this desktop replacement notebook is the omission of a power brick in favour of an AC power supply plug, although no mention is made as to whether this means the omission of a battery as well. Also missing are details of the graphics card included, although my bet is on an nVidia 8700 GT, as the current pick of the crop in mobile graphics.

No release date is given, and we can’t be sure that the G25 will ever grace European shores. Pricing is set at a Dr Evil-esq one million Korean Won (about £530, but don’t expect a direct conversion if does get a UK release). Still, the concept at least offers some interest.
