AJP has managed to pack in a cracking spec too...
Technology is always giving users more for their money, that’s one of the best things about it. More speed, more functionality, more capacity, less cost – and this has certainly rings true for AJP’s 8317.
Costing just £799 excluding VAT (approx £938 inclusive), the 8317 is the first 17 inch laptop I have seen to come in at under a grand. The giant widescreen display isn’t just a gimmick either as it has a high 1440 x 900 native resolution and is backed up by a Athlon 64 3400+ processor, 512MB DDR400 RAM (upgradeable to 2GB), an 80GB 5,400rpm HDD, integrated wireless g, Bluetooth 1.2 and an 8x dual layer DVD burner.
Connectivity options are similarly well catered for with a built in modem and 10/100/1000 Ethernet adapter, 6x USB2.0 ports, FireWire, TV Out, SP/DIF, DVI-D out and a 3-in-1 card reader. Given all this the size should be huge as well, but at 3.5Kg the 8317 is not much heavier than your typical 15in machine.
If you decide to take the plunge on this powerhouse you’ll be pleased to know it comes with 36 months warranty (12 months including parts) as standard and a carry case. Of course delivery is a totally crazy, unreasonable and awful £39, which should put you off the entire package altogether (that’s irony – for our US friends). The 8317 will be available to buy on AJP’s site before the end of the month.
