Facebook has announced it reached the astonishing landmark of one billion unique visitors in a single day, earlier this week.
On Monday one in 7 people on the planet checked the social network, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed in a post to his personal page.
Zuckerberg wrote on Thursday: “We just passed an important milestone. For the first time ever, one billion people used Facebook in a single day.
“
At the last official count, Facebook has 1.49 billion users in total who are active every month, so today’s announcement means two-thirds of them are accessing the platform on a day to day basis.
“A more open and connected world is a better world. It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values,” Zuckerberg added.

The next challenge for the firm is attempting to branch out into previously untapped corners of the globe.
Having practically maxed out the possibilities in the developed world where web access is readily available, many of Facebook’s initiatives are centred around bringing connectivity to those without it.
Through its Internet.org offshoot, Facebook is attempting to improve internet access in the developing world, while the firm is also looking into using drones to beam web (and hence Facebook) access to new places.
