Hamilton is now available to stream on Disney+. It was due to play in theatres in October 2021 but the release was brought forward due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Having started on Off-Broadway back in 2015, Lin Manuel Miranda’s musical has become a worldwide sensation, reflecting upon the role of Alexander Hamilton in the American Revolutionary War.
From the comfort of your own home, you can now view the 160 minutes long production with its original cast, right now on Disney Plus. You’ll need a Disney Plus subscription as Disney has now stopped its free trial promo.

How to watch Hamilton online?
To stream Hamilton online, a Disney Plus subscription is needed as Hamilton is available exclusively on Disney Plus. As subscription costs £5.99/$6.99 a month.
The streamable version of Hamilton was originally intended to be screened for cinemas worldwide, but with the Coronavirus pandemic occurring, it sped up plans to get released to the public. Disney snagged exclusive rights after outbidding a host of bidders.
The Disney+ app is also available on a number of devices. If you’re not watching through a web browser, Disney+ is supported on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV (4th gen onwards), AirPlay, Android mobile and TV; Chromecast, iOS, PS4, Roku streaming players, Xbox One; Sky Q, NOW TV; LG, Roku and Samsung Tizen TVs.
You can watch Hamilton across ten devices, and stream to four devices simultaneously. Disney Plus supports 4K HDR on compatible TVs – that means you can watch the musical in HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR, as well as Dolby Atmos audio.

What is Hamilton the Musical?
Hamilton was created by composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, and tells the story about one of America’s overlooked founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton.
Based on the autobiography of the same name by Roger Chernow, Hamilton retains its period trappings, but the production makes use of a multicultural cast alongside a soundtrack that fuses modern hip-hop and rap with the style of traditional theatre.
Since its premiere at Richard Rodgers Theatre on New York Broadway in 2015, it has become a cultural phenomenon, winning 11 Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize. There are multiple productions of Hamilton worldwide, and cities include London (Victoria Palace Theatre), Sydney, Hamburg and Los Angeles.
The ‘film’ was recorded back in 2016, made up of footage spliced from three different performances. It means viewers can see the original cast, which includes Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, Leslie Odom Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson, while Jonathan Groff plays King George III.
Disney bought the worldwide distribution rights for $75 million. Hamilton was due to be released in cinemas in 2021, but the Coronavirus flu sped up the schedule for its July 3rd, 2020 release.
