Samsung’s recently announced video service is US-only but having managed to find a workaround to download and install it for the Gear VR, we got our first glimpse for what Samsung is surely hoping will be the YouTube for VR.
Users can upload 360-degree video to the service with users able to stream or download content that tend to be no longer than ten minutes. There’s a pretty basic user interface where you can swipe on the Gear VR’s touchpad to scroll through the latest clips.
If you look up, videos are broken up into different categories like Trending, Sports, Planet VR and Fresh. Unsurprisingly, there’s a small amount of content right now, and streaming quality is not great so the best option is to download. Files are big as well, so be prepared to wait.
What we can say, is that it’s a taste of how user generated content could give the Gear VR a real boost.
Comfort rating: Comfortable for most
