The US-based accessories company has been making cases for iPhones and Android phones for some time now and the Feather Shine is a snap-on case that’s been given the Samsung Galaxy S5 treatment. The core feature is Incipio’s Plextonium material, which is essentially a polycarbonate that aims to deliver better drop and scratch resistance. The case itself features a matte, white back with a clear trim around the sides of the S5 and an inner cushion to help absorb shock. The top and bottom are left exposed with raised surfaces around the standby button and volume rocker to add extra protection.
It’s not the best-looking case we’ve seen and the white back actually harks back to the horrible design of the S4, which we hope Samsung has left behind. It does grip nicely around the handset and despite the glosssy back doesn’t feel slippery to hold. We did have some issues with the embedded button, specifically the standby button which is very stiff to press and barely contacts the actual button. To test the scratch resistence, scratching a metal pen lid and a 20p coin against the back showed very little signs of damage either.
While the Feather could have done a better job complimenting the new S5 design, it’s a case that provides decent protection without adding extra bulk to your handset.
At time of review the Incipio Feather Shine was available for £24.99.
