God of War 1 and 2 are arguably two of the best action titles ever created, and rightly earned both commercial and critical praise upon their initial PlayStation 2 launches. While Sony doesn’t deem the Vita worthy enough of having its own exclusive entry in the lineage, it has given the console this two-game collection – which, ironically, is a port of the PlayStation 3 version of the same double-pack. It’s hard to remain grumpy about getting second or even third-hand entertainment when what’s on offer is this good, though; Kratos’ first two adventures are possibly his best, and boast some of the most amazing set-pieces you’re likely to find in the genre.

There are issues with the transition from home to handheld – the pre-rendered cut-scenes are fuzzy and soupy, an unfortunate throwback to the FMV-packed days of the 32-bit era – but by and large, this represents incredible value for money and a keen reminder of how this series has shaped the modern action game.
