Anyone could have predicted that Lego would follow Skylanders and Disney Infinity into the toys-to-life genre. Not so many would have predicted that TT Games would knock it clean out of the park.
Dimensions is a brilliant family game, taking inspiration from the anarchic attitude of The Lego Movie to build a universe where kids can mix settings and characters from all the different Lego worlds and have a great time. Team up Lego Batman and Gandalf on the mean streets of Gotham City, or bring Wonder Woman and Marty McFly into Middle Earth. It doesn’t matter. Knock yourself out.
Whatever you do, you’d struggle to go as crazy as TT Games has in the game’s story mode, which takes you on a whistlestop tour of worlds ranging from The Simpsons to DC Heroes to Doctor Who, where just about anyone might turn up at any time – and probably will. Kids will love the way building and moving real Lego kits is a key part of the gameplay, while the grown-ups will enjoy the opportunity to explore the movies and TV shows of our youth. Back to the Future? Scooby Doo? The Simpsons? Bring it on. The only problem? With so many irresistible packs on their way, the costs mount up a little too fast for comfort.
